Introduction to the beautiful country of Uganda
Uganda is a country with wonderful natural scenery and very friendly peoples, and as most safaris tour the country by road, you are able to really take in the atmosphere and beauty of this land.
The highlight of a visit to Uganda is usually seeing the incredible mountain gorillas, either in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or in Mgahinga National Park on the northern slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes. However, Uganda offers a huge amount more.
Primate viewing is exceptional with around 19 species recorded including chimpanzee which are found in numerous areas such as Kibale and Budongo forests and the Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Ngamba Island off Entebbe offers the chance to see rescued chimps close up.
Big game viewing is very good in Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Kidepo and Lake Mburo National Parks, whilst the Ruwenzori ‘Mountains of the Moon’, and Mount Elgon provide some spectacular mountain trekking.
Uganda is also an incredible birding destination, with well over 1000 species found, including the rare shoebill and many Albertine Rift endemics.
Overland safaris are generally undertaken in the form of small group departures or tailor-made private safaris. We primarily specialise in the latter, but please see our ‘Group Tours’ page if you are looking to join a group. Many tours now combine both Uganda and Rwanda by starting in Kigali and ending in Kampala (or vice versa). Private safaris are tailored around your interests and requirements.
